fully feeling

Offering you a short but mighty list of things that have had me fully feeling these days - things that have me present, mindful, grateful, teary, perspective shifted, elated, in love with the ordinary, simple beauty in the world kind of fully feeling. Especially in times that I’ve had to avoid the news, limit my social media, and protect my energy, observing things like this have been healing.

  • The sunset over the Angeles National Forest mountains as you drive east at dusk

  • Tantrums (I no joke have been feeling very much in my purpose of holding space and give so much compassion and empathy to Sebi during a tantrum. They’ve been a pretty amazing teacher)

  • Snacking > meals just because intuitively it feels cute right now

  • Suleika Jouad’s blog, the Isolation Journals. Her writing and perspective evoke a lot in me, though it’s this post by her husband Jon Batiste that really struck me this month.

The legendary Thelonious Monk once said, “A genius is the one who is most like himself.” I love that quote because it speaks to authenticity. It speaks to the need to be exactly who you are, and to do the thing that is most innate to you. Nobody else has your specific talents, your interests, your experience, your skills, or your perspective. If you channel that kind of authentic expression, you bring things into the world that nobody else ever has or will. All you need is some imagination—because it’s up to you to create the blueprint for the thing you want to see in the world.

  • The gift of presence

  • Going to the library

  • Walking slowly

  • Fresh flowers

  • Stopping my mind when it starts to say “no” to listen to what is actually being said

  • Introspective sad girl playlists, such as this one
